Komodo National Park

Real dragons spurt no fire, have no need to fly and cast no magic spells. And still, one look from them might render you speechless. These komodos, the real life dragons, are a sight indeed. Gigantic, the lizard-like creatures are about two or three meters in length. They can easily weigh about 165 kilograms. Despite of their sheer size and appearance, they are not active hunters. What makes them intimidating is the fact that they are a patient predator. In the wild, they stalk a victim, usually a weak or injured one. One bite and that's what it usually takes. After following the victim for a while, sometimes up to several days' time, the komodos will devour the dying prey.
The Komodo Dragon (Varanus komodoensis) is an endangered species which can only be found in the Komodo National Park (KNP) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Because of the unique and rare nature of this animal, KNP was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986.
The park includes three major islands, Komodo, Rinca and Padar, and numerous smaller islands together totaling 603 km2 of land. The total size of Komodo National Park is presently 1,817 km2. Proposed extensions of 25 km2 of land (Banta Island) and 479 km2 of marine waters would bring the total surface area up to 2,321 km2.At least 2500 Komodos live in this area. Large dragons are usually three meters long and weigh up to 90 kg. Their habitat has beautiful panoramic views of savannas, rain forests, white beaches, beautiful corals, and clean blue seas. In this area, you can also find horses, wild buffalo, deer, wild boar, snakes, monkeys, and various types of birds.
KNP has a rich and amazing underwater sea biotica. Divers claim that Komodo waters are one of the best diving sites in the world. It has fascinating underwater scenery. You can find 385 species of beautiful corals, mangrove forests, and seaweeds as a home for thousands of fish species, 70 types of sponges, 10 types of dolphins, 6 types of whales, green turtles and various types of sharks and stingrays.
Or you can do some diving activities in Komodo Island.

SOUTH LOMBOK, INDONESIA

South Lombok, in general, presents itself as a relaxed place (some people compare it to Bali 20 years ago), and travelers of all interests (not only divers) can find a very tropical and enjoyable region to visit. One will find beautiful white sandy beaches, simple to more luxurious accommodations, friendly locals, and lots of nature and relaxation.

There are 3 unique regions in the south of Lombok, Sekotong, Belongas Bay, and Kuta Bay;

Sekotong is a tropical little place with not much topside activity other than maybe renting a motorbike and exploring the coastline, snorkeling, swimming, or of course scuba diving. It's quite perfect for couples and families who just want to relax and enjoy. There isn't much touristic infrastructure (although it’s developing fairly quickly), but most accommodations have an adjacent restaurant so no one will need to go hungry (or thirsty). The scuba diving it's relaxed, colorful reef diving at very intact reefs and lots of macro life can be found.

Belongas Bay, the place where the misconceptions actually come from, is truly only for the more adventures traveler and diver. The region is basically in the middle of nowhere, and the locals don't see very much tourism there. So don't be surprised if you are approached in a quite curios manner, for some this might even feel a little disturbing. The diving around this region can prove to be very challenging (especially during the dry season from July till October), but also can be very rewarding in a sense of pelagic life. Most certainly I would only recommend diving there only to the experienced diver.

Kuta Bay is comparable to Sekotong (from the diving aspect), but offers more infrastructure and topside possibilities such as, cafes, restaurants, and accommodations. The diving there is well suited for all levels of experience, and the dive shops there also have pool facilities etc. available for all levels of courses. But it should be mentioned that Kuta is best for diving during the rainy season (November till April), as during the dry season it's subject to wind and waves (hence the time surfers love the place).

There are 2 or 3 dive shops located in South Lombok, and I'm sure they'll be happy to give you some more detailed info about the general conditions for the particular regions.

Indonesia Livestock Exports

The Australian livestock exports industry has exported cattle to Indonesia for over 30 years, mostly from cattle stations in northern Australia. Northern Australian cattle are in high demand in Indonesia as they are well suited to the warmer, tropical climate and adapt well to local conditions.

Australian livestock are critical in providing what is often the only source of protein for local families and communities. They are also used for breeding.

Cattle travel from Australia on livestock export vessels where they are cared for by trained stockmen. On arrival in Indonesia they are transported to feedlots, which provide a safe and secure environment for livestock to adapt to the local climate whilst being prepared for processing.

At feedlots, cattle have continual access to food and water and are cared for by local stockmen trained by the Australian livestock export industry. The cattle are monitored and their well-being assessed to ensure they are fit and healthy.

The Australian livestock export industry invests in making improvements for Australian cattle exported to Indonesia. This includes upgrading Indonesian feedlots and abattoirs, as well as providing livestock handling training and nutrition and breeding advice. This work is carried out by Australian animal welfare specialists and funded by Australian livestock producers and Australian livestock exporters.

Australia’s live export industry recently announced it will deliver further animal welfare improvements in Indonesia in 2011 following the release of an independent study commissioned by the livestock export industry and Australian Government’s joint Live Trade Animal Welfare Partnership.

The Independent study into animal welfare conditions for cattle in Indonesia from point of arrival from Australia to slaughter was conducted by a panel led by Professor Emeritus in Veterinary Science at Melbourne University, Prof Ivan Caple, and assessed 17 Indonesian facilities to rate the effectiveness of the industry’s animal welfare programs.

The review found the welfare of Australian cattle exported to Indonesia was generally good and provided recommendations for further animal welfare improvements in Indonesia. The Australian livestock export industry has implemented or has scheduled these improvements for action including:

• improving point of slaughter training materials and further extending animal handler competency through training programs and ongoing review and support.
• encouraging the adoption of stunning in the slaughter of Australian cattle.
• structuring journey management guidelines to ensure long-haul transport provides sufficient rest-time for livestock.
• delivering further feedlot management programs to expand the technical support provided to Indonesian feedlotters.

In 2010 Indonesia imported a total of 518,000 live export cattle from Australia, down 32 per cent on 2009 figures due to Indonesia’s enforcement of weight restrictions and permit allocations.

The Middle East took approximately 205,000 head of Australian cattle, up 112 per cent on 2009 volumes due to the recommencement of the live cattle export trade to Egypt and the emergence of Turkey as a key livestock exports market. Over 45,000 cattle were exported to Turkey from southern Western Australia in 2010. In addition, 140,000 sheep were also exported to Turkey in

ENORMITY OF MOUNT MERAPI

Living in the shadows of an active volcano is like sitting on a time bomb, especially when one of them is called the Fire Mountain or Gunung Merapi, the volcano that dominates the center of the island of Java.  Mt Merapi, located near Yogyakarta, is one of the most active volcanoes on earth. It is one of some 500 volcanoes in Indonesia, from which at least 129 are active, aptly giving this archipelago the name: the Ring of Fire.
Despite its frequent eruptions, Mt. Merapi is very central to the lives of the Javanese people and kings. For through its eruptions Merapi spews lava, ash and minerals to the surrounding areas. These provide nutrients for the soil, making this one of the most fertile areas in the world, and consequently the most densely populated. This majestic, perfectly cone-shaped volcano, with its peak at 2,911 meters above sea level, has also determined the lives of kings and realms. In the early 11th Century, the once mighty ancient empire of Mataram mysteriously disappeared, and power suddenly shifted to East Java.  Scientists surmise that a violent eruption of Merapi in 1006 AD was the ruin of the empire.

This massive eruption also buried the nearby Borobudur temple in ash. More recently in the 20th century, a destructive eruption in 1930 claimed 1300 lives. Today Merapi still erupts intermittently, but the people here have befriended the mountain and accept its rumblings and coughs as part of normal natural phenomena.

The Merapi volcano plays an important part in the accepted cosmos of the Javanese sultans. The Keraton of Yogyakarta faces the mountain in one direct line. Merapi is also guarded by spiritual “guards” who give offerings to the mountain.

Local people respect the awesome power of this volcano. Annually, on the anniversary of the Sultan’s coronation, offerings (labuhan) are brought from the keraton of Yogya  to Mt. Merapi ,  together with similar offerings carried to the Indian Ocean to the south, to appease the spirits of the mountain and the sea, in order to bring welfare to the inhabitants of Java.
Merapi is continuously monitored by a number of earthquake posts, who warn inhabitants of impending eruptions.  Despite frequently giving out smoke, the mountain still attracts hikers and climbers.

There's nothing better than this! It will be a vacation you won't forget.

Villas in Bali

A villa is basically a house where a family can spend their time together. In Bali however, a villa is a breath of nature for the family, for first time honeymooners, or individuals who want to re-encounter the self being. Most villas in Bali take personal privacy into account, and this is at harmony with nature. The detailed concept of their respective architectures can be various, but privacy and luxury play an important role in the basic concept of many villas.

Luxurious, sometimes superbly luxurious, the architecture of many villas in Bali is breathing in the rhythm of space that plays on the silence of the surrounds and fits effortlessly and discreetly into the small community.

In recent years the island of the Gods has become the site for many villas, or a cluster of villas in Bali referred sometimes as a boutique resort. The beginning of the new super luxury trend began at the end of the 1980's, precisely with the opening of the Amandari, perched on the edge of Ubud's Sayan Gorge. The mind behind the resort was renowned Australian architect Peter Muller along with owner Adrian Zecher.

Hotels of that era were built with many rooms. Villas, however, have different approach. It is not simply how many hotel rooms you have, but how wonderful they are. Luxury, too, is not only determined by expensive materials for many of these resorts often use the simplest of local materials.

The detail of concepts of boutique resorts and villas in Bali have developed since the days of Muller and Zecher, who has initiated the rejuvenation of the Balinese traditional village living within their architecture design. "Nowadays, modern touches are an important component in the design of villas in Bali," said Popo Danes, a reputable Balinese architect who has designed a plenty of villas in some of Bali's more remote locations. As a result, according to Popo, the sense of simplicity is becoming stronger.

The Breath of Villas in Bali

In recent years the island of the Gods has become the site for many villas, or a cluster of villas referred sometimes as a boutique resort.

The detail of concepts of boutique resorts and villas have developed since the days of Muller and Zecher, who has initiated the rejuvenation of the Balinese traditional village living within their architecture design. "Nowadays, modern touches are an important component in the design of villas in Bali," said Popo Danes, a reputable Balinese architect who has designed a plenty of villas in some of Bali's more remote locations.

TOURING INCREDIBLE INDONESIA

iIndonesia’s phenomenal natural bounty is world famous and it is now synonymous with tourism. However, many people tend to think of Indonesia as a youngster’s paradise, for backpackers and youth on their gap year holidays.

Part of this is because of its distance from the Western world. But as globalization has shrunk our world and older people travel to Indonesia on work, the number of expatriates too is on the rise and this has contributed to Indonesia now being rediscovered as a great place to take your families. Leisure travel has increased as people choose to take their children along and show them a different and fascinating world.

Bali is an obvious choice to take the children with its emphasis on culture and traditions and the grace of its arts. Children will love going through the traditional temples, especially during festivals. It will be even more fun if you dress up in traditional sarongs as you watch the processions of gorgeously attired locals. Apart from the cultural aspect, the beach too is a huge draw for children. Sun yourself while they dig elaborate castles and build and destroy cities in the fine white sand. Slather on the sun block and the whole family can head out on a great boat ride to islands, near and far.

Sunbathing, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving

You can indulge in your favorite activity from snorkeling, exploring the islands, or bonding with family over a great game of beach football. Indonesia is a great place to shop and the street markets will be a fabulous new experience for the family. You can watch the good natured haggling and try it out yourself. Kids can pick out their own souvenirs from a wide range of things like kites, wooden, carved animals and birds, musical instruments made from the local wood.

Many hotels in Indonesia have activities planned out for children and some even have children’s clubs where the kids can mingle with other children and generally raise Cain while being watched over by professional child minders. This will give the adults a chance to experience the romantic atmosphere exuded by Indonesia and pamper themselves in the spa. Most hotels will offer children’s meals and you must be careful about giving street food to children. To round off the holiday, head off to an amusement park where you can become one of the kids yourself.

TIPS : Some Hot Tips on Charter Flights for Discount Travel

A charter flight will almost always be a less expensive way to fly. Whether your going to Europe or just across the country to Florida. Here are some good tips for finding and choosing a good charter to make sure you save plenty of money on each trip.

Almost anyone will probably agree that in a perfect world they'd be able to travel more. It is one of the most natural human desires to want to see different parts of the world and experience new things. And anyone who has traveled will probably agree that you don't really appreciate or think about your home too much until you have the perspective of seeing how people live in other parts of the world.

The problem of course, is that travel has always been expensive. Although airfares have gotten cheaper over the years, they are still expensive enough that most people don't fly regularly, and this is likely to remain the case. So unless you plan on suddenly getting rich, you're going to have to come up with some discount travel solutions if you want to fly more, and a great thing to look into if you're looking for a cheap flight are charter flights.

Charter flights are cheaper because they work on a different system than a started airline flight. A standard airline will have a set route between two cites: an airline will fly a certain amount a times a week between two cities, and this remains constant regardless of the amount of passengers. In other words normal airline routes function like bus routes, and sometimes there may only be a few people on the plane. It is this need to average out costs - to be able to afford all those times when the plane is a third full - that leads to high airfares.

Nearly any popular destination has charter flights going to it from major airports across the country. Also there are plenty of charters overseas to Europe, Asia or the United States. Charter flying is highly recommended to save money on many flights around the world.

A charter company can offer cheaper fares by working in a different fashion: they will charter an entire plane from an airline for a particular date and time, and thus receive a heavy discount on the cost. They can then pass some of this discount on to you by offering a lower per seat price for the flight. Most charter companies operate along very common routes during peak times - for example, sunny vacation spots during the winter.

Charter flights are much more reliable then other more radical ways of obtaining discount airfare, and fares will generally get cheaper as the departure date approaches. There is a certain amount of risk, however: a charter company can decide to cancel a flight if they haven't sold enough tickets. Unlike a regular airline, which constantly has planes going to multiple destinations, the charter company may not be able o immediately put you on another plane. So instead of waiting a few hours it's likely that if your charter flight is cancelled you'll either be receiving a refund, or waiting at least a day or two for another charter - which of course can ruin any vacation.

That being said, there are many large and reliable charter companies, and charter flights -- while not offering discounts as big as can be found through other discount travel methods - remain a reliable alternative to regular airfare. And if you're flexible and willing to buy a ticket on short notice, you can find many excellent airfares from charter companies, making charter flights one of the more popular discount traveling methods.

TIPS : 12 Critical Tips to Saving on Airport Parking

Off-site airport parking is a boon for travelers. Often they prove to be cheaper than parking lots run by airports and online discounts and other conveniences make the option even more attractive.

Satellite parking lots face competition and so it is easy for those in the know to save big.

Here are a few insights:

1. Keep a tab on offers. As the race for success becomes intense, all sites run attractive offers giving away coupons or web only deals. Many offer an e-coupon that entitles the user to a day's free parking at selected parking lots. This means a saving of US$ 18. Other offers give away a day if you park for two days or 50% off on the first days parking fee.

2. If you are a frequent user of parking lots check for offers where a parking operator with a major presence near airports you use offers a 50% discount if you purchase a certain number of parking vouchers online or on the phone using your credit card.

3. Many parking sites have a different rate for different parking positions. Check on the kinds of parking and rate differences. You could save up to $ 55 for a seven day parking.

4. Ask for rates depending on the length of stay. Rates vary so if you are going to need parking for a week then you could get a higher discount than the daily rate on offer.

5. Many run a frequent user program where repeat customers are offered many facilities. This is similar to frequent flier programs.

6. Find out if the lots you use offer special discounts to members of AARP, AAA, or other such organizations. In fact, AA members save between 10-20% on parking. Some sites even offer the service of picking up and dropping your car from the airport terminal.

7. Do your research well compare providers, the rates on offer, as well as facilities at the place you need to park. If you are clever you can get more for less.

8. Before you travel use the internet to check on daily and weekly parking offers. There are free days, discounted weekly rates, and guaranteed rates on offer at various times. You can avail the offer by making a booking online or printing out the page with a code and presenting it to the cashier at the parking lot.
9. Keep track of promotions especially during holiday seasons. Many lots accept coupons and give away discounts offered by consumer products

10. Often pre-booking parking can get you a saving of even 60% and more.

11. Hotels often offer parking specials, so make use of the extra facility being offered by the hotel you plan to stay in.

12. Some travel agents who book flight tickets offer advice or coupons for parking at the point of exit and entry. Ask you agent when you book your flight.

Off site parking is not just fast and convenient it can be a saving too.

TIPS : Budget Travel and Having Fun While Doing It

Traveling can be expensive. Sometimes there is just no other choice but to travel and it may not be something that you want to spend a lot of money on. There are some ways that you can save money while traveling and still have a comfortable and enjoyable trip.

How to save money by flying
If you have to travel remember that holidays are the best days to fly. Thanksgiving is a great day because hardly anyone will be flying that day. The day before and the day after a holiday are the worst days to travel. These are the busiest days of the year to be on a plane. Pack light when you are traveling. Extra baggage could cost you time and money and you can save by packing a little less and you will save a lot more.

Take a train instead of flying
Trains are a great way to travel because they are usually less expensive than a plane. They are also less crowded. When you decide to take a train you will save money that can be used for other things on your vacation.

Traveling with your children can sometimes be a little stressful and maybe even a downright nightmare. However, this does not have to be the case. There are ways for you to keep your children occupied while you are on the road or in the air. You can keep them happy and at the same time keep your sanity.

Bring along some snacks
The one thing you can always depend on is your child getting hungry. They are always asking for a snack or something to nibble on at the worst possible times. These times are when you are busy or when you have nothing for them to snack on. One good way to prepare for this situation is to bring along a variety of their favorite things. Another good idea is to have some drink boxes on hand for them also. You know if they are hungry then the next thing they are going to say is they are thirsty. Think ahead and get a list of the things they like and pack them along with you.

When you are traveling either alone or with your family, bring your own snacks. This will save you time and money when you get hungry. Sometimes with the hustle of traveling we forget to get ourselves something to eat. This may cause an all of sudden sick feeling for you. By having some snacks on hand you will save yourself the trouble of feeling sick. This will also save you money. Snacks on coach flights and sections are not free and can be expensive in some cases.

Driving in a car
When you are driving to your destination, there are some things that you can do to save yourself money. Remember to not drive too fast. Driving fast can cause your car to use more fuel. It may also get you a speeding ticket, which will cost you a lot of extra money in the end. It is better to stay at a steady and safe speed while you are driving. Also bring your own food. Make up some sandwiches and bring along some sodas and water. This will save you money and time by not having to stop for food.

Another good piece of advice when traveling by car is to take turns driving with someone. Make sure that you have another safe driver for times when you need a break. You can sleep while someone else drives for a while and then switch back and forth when a rest is needed. This will save you the expense of paying for a room and get you to your destination sooner.

If you are traveling with children on a plane, remember to arrive at the airport early. Make sure that you allow yourself plenty of time to get you and your children checked in and not to mention leave yourself some time for bathroom breaks. You know how kids can sometimes slow you down and you want to make sure that you have enough time for the unexpected things that can come up at any given time.

Traveling with your children can be memorable experience in your life and with a little planning and thought; you can make that memory a great one.

TIPS : Road Trips with Your Laptop

Are you on the road again? From shorter family road-trips to retired folks who roam the U.S. in their RV's, more and more people want to stay hooked in with their laptops on the road. Depending on the age of your laptop and its capabilities (many used laptops and refurbished laptops may need upgrades to be wireless for instance) you should be able to easily power your laptop from your car or RV and you can probably find tons of locations with Wireless internet access, both paid services and free!

To use your laptop in the car and pull power from the car battery, you will need a power inverter. In some cases, your laptop manufacturer will offer an auto adaptor, but the power inverter, which has a universal power plug could prove far more versatile and worth the money. The power inverter will convert the DC auto battery power into the right AC power your laptop needs. The power inverter will plug directly into your cigarette lighter and then will have an adaptor end which will let you plug your power cord directly to your vehicle.

You have options in terms of power inverters as well. There are two main types; modified sine wave and pure sine wave. You should check your laptop manual, or the support site to find out if your laptop will accept either kinds of AC power created by these inverters. In some cases, the power created by the modified sine wave doesn't work with laptop computers, so you don't want to spend the money and be out of luck!
When you begin shopping for inverters, here are some things to remember. Laptop computers, whether a new laptop, used laptop or refurbished laptop will require between 50 and 70 watts of power. Make sure you buy a power inverter that will provide more than the power load that you need. If you need to do this frequently, you should make sure to buy a quality inverter because it will be a better investment in the long run. Xantex makes a great power inverter, especially the StatPower PW-50 or 75 or the ProWatt 150. For frequent road-trippers the Simlex Power pure sine wave inverter is a great choice that will last for a while.
Obviously, your RV probably has the right power plugs you need to run your laptop. The bigger issue with an RV'er is going to be finding consistent internet access for reasonable prices, or better yet, for free! Many RV campgrounds are now offering high speed wireless internet so their travelers can easily connect. You can find many campgrounds that offer WiFi at RV Internet Access (rvinternetaccess.com) and at sites like RV Travel (www.rvtravel.com). If you are camping our on your road-trip, you'll also be able to find tons of resources online like WiFi Free Spot (www.wififreespot.com) and others. As long as you have your power and your laptop is wireless enabled you should be good to go!

Just because you are on the road, doesn't mean you have to be disconnected from friends and family. Make sure your used laptop, refurbished laptop or even your new laptop is ready for power and Wifi and has the memory to support your internet connection and you'll be connected in no time, wherever and whenever you want!
Used Laptops specializes in providing customers with the best possible used laptops and refurbished laptops at bargain prices. If you need computing power at bargain prices, Used Laptops is the place to go!
